Why I do this work: Growing up as a third generation child of an Italian-American immigrant family, I always assumed – because that’s what my family and teachers imbued in me – that I would go to, and graduate from, college. It was not until after I graduated and began teaching in New Orleans that I recognized how dramatically privileged I am and how unjust our nation’s education systems are. I believe that my own privilege and luck are best applied to the invigorating and challenging work of improving education for the next generation of students.
