Background: Sherri Geng joined Bellwether in 2018 and is a senior consultant in the Strategic Advising practice area. Prior to joining Bellwether, Sherri received an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she studied the intersection of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors and worked to broaden student engagement on campus in social enterprise and education. Before business school, Sherri taught middle and high school science for four years in Chicago, including as part of the founding team of a charter high school within the Noble Network. During her time in the classroom, Sherri’s students had the third-highest growth across the network; she also launched a cross-country athletics program, advocated for STEM initiatives, and developed a curriculum to tackle social-emotional learning and college readiness with her students and their families.

Outside of the classroom, Sherri has served as a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company across both private and public sectors, has worked in business development at a higher education technology start-up, and began her career in private equity as an investment analyst. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in the history of science.

Why I do this work: My parents immigrated to the U.S. with me when I was 3 years old, hoping to provide me with educational opportunities that would change my life trajectory. As a teacher, I gained a deeper understanding of what it might take to provide that opportunity to all students. I believe that all children deserve access to a high-quality, transformational education that sets them on the pathway to a full and rich life.
