Heather Buchheim is senior communications manager with Bellwether Education Partners in the Operations team. Her work deepens Bellwether’s impact for students by helping ensure the organization's various service areas — as well as its team's work and ideas — are available to a wide range of audiences. Prior to joining Bellwether in 2016, Heather managed communications and grassroots fundraising for Exhale. She has been helping organizations better articulate their missions and attract supporters since 2006. As a consultant with M+R and Watershed, she led strategy and wrote for groups like The Humane Society of the United States, Sierra Club, CREDO Action, and dozens of others to mobilize their bases and convert donors. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Global Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her writing has also appeared in Refinery29, Bust, Feministing and elsewhere.
Why I do this work: My family moved from Massachusetts, to Alabama, to California when I was growing up, and my wide-ranging experience of our country's education system helped mold my worldview. It also drove my passion to work for equity and justice through my career. I want to build a world where access to a strong education isn’t a privilege for the few.
